Srinagar, Mar 26: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and recovered psychotropic substance from his possession.

A police spokesman said that based on specific information, a police party from Police Station Bandipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Bandipora established a checkpoint at Ajar Chowk Bandipora.

“During checking, one person identified as Muhammad Ramzan Sofi, son of Abdul Khaliq Sofi of Kaloosa Bandipora was intercepted. On his personal checking, the officers were able to recover 624 capsules/tablets of banned drugs from his possession.

He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” spokesman said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 35/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged police to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.
