Kashmir Crown | Baramulla, July 16, 2026: A joint Child Labour Drive was successfully conducted today in the areas of Watergam and Sopore with the objective of identifying children engaged in labour and ensuring the protection of their rights in accordance with the law.
During the drive, various commercial establishments, workshops, eateries, and other workplaces were inspected by the concerned authorities. The team interacted with employers, workers, and members of the public to assess the presence of child labour and to create awareness regarding the legal prohibition against engaging children in labour.
Children found in vulnerable circumstances were identified and their details were documented for appropriate intervention, counselling, and rehabilitation measures. Employers and stakeholders were sensitized about the provisions of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Nazia, Member, Child Welfare Committee, Baramulla, stated:
“Every child has an inalienable right to education, protection, and a dignified childhood. Child labour not only deprives children of these rights but also adversely affects their physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
The Child Welfare Committee remains committed to identifying children in need of care and protection and ensuring that they are rehabilitated and mainstreamed into education and other welfare services. We appeal to all citizens to report instances of child labour and join hands in safeguarding the future of our children.”
The drive reflects the collective commitment of the Child Welfare Committee, District Child Protection Unit, Labour Department, Police, and other stakeholders towards the eradication of child labour and the promotion of child rights.
Such drives shall continue to be conducted periodically across the district to ensure that every child is protected from exploitation and provided with opportunities for healthy growth and development.
