In the aftermath of a devastating hailstorm and incessant rainfall that struck various parts of Kupwara, DDC Chairman Irfan Sultan Pandithpori has raised serious concern over the extensive damage caused to fruit crops, vegetables, and residential areas.

The sudden weather disturbance, which included a cloudburst in some locations, led to flooding in low-lying areas, with water entering homes and damaging both public and private property. The worst hit, however, are the local farmers whose apple orchards, walnut trees, and kitchen gardens have suffered massive losses.

Expressing deep solidarity with the affected families, Chairman Pandithpori visited several impacted areas and interacted with local residents and farmers. He assured them that every effort is being made to bring their grievances to the government’s notice.

“The damage is widespread and heartbreaking. I urge the UT Government and concerned departments to release compensation immediately so that our farmers are not left to suffer alone,” said Chairman Pandithpori.

He also emphasized the need for a long-term strategy to protect the agricultural sector from unpredictable weather events, including the promotion of crop insurance and resilient farming techniques.

The DDC Chairman called on the administration to carry out a swift damage assessment and ensure relief reaches the affected households without delay.

Meanwhile, he appealed to the people of Kupwara to stay alert, avoid venturing into vulnerable areas, and report any emergency to the local authorities. His office remains open for public assistance and coordination.
