BANDIPORA, AUGUST 22: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad today visited Gurez valley to review the developmental activities in the border Sub-Division of Bandipora district.

The Deputy Commissioner convened a meeting of officers at Dak Banglow Dawar to review the pace of developmental activities in the Gurez Valley and was apprised of status of works and activities being carried out by different departments for the betterment of the people.

SDM Gurez, on the occasion gave a detailed presentation about the achievements registered and ongoing projects in Gurez along with their present status.

Deputy Commissioner was informed that work is in progress in seven major projects including Mini-Secretariat Gurez, Indoor Stadium, Dak Banglow, Helipads, transmission line from Bandipora to Gurez, Bunkers in residential areas along LOC, several BADP works and Multi Level Projects in Resettlement Colony for KGHEP displaced family at Wanpora including construction of Hospital, Shopping Complex and School besides macadamization of various roads. The SDM also informed about the status of various works under CRF, BADP and other centrally sponsored schemes.

It was given out that 1X50 Mtr Span Steel bridge constructed at the cost of Rs 1.23 Cr over river Kishenganga at Dawar Gurez connecting Dawar Markoot, achoora and Chorwan villages was recently inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor thus fulfilling the long pending demand of the people. The road shall act as bypass to the Dawar Sub Division Headquarters.

On the occasion, DC Bandipora directed the officers to expedite the work on ongoing projects and work extra hours to meet the deadline. He said there is a limited working season in the Gurez Valley due to which the officers need to work extra hours to complete the works before the onset of winter in the region.

He also reviewed the availability of essential commodities including ration, fuel and cooking gas. He urged the officers to stock ample quantity of essentials for the upcoming winter so that people do not face problems during tough weather conditions.

Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the performance and activities of key departments including agriculture, horticulture, Handicraft and Handloom, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Health and Education. He directed the officers to regularly visit Gurez to take on spot review of developmental works and also asked them to mobilize the field staff for redressal of genuine greviances and effective implementation of different state and central sponsored schemes.

He later visited Sub-District Hospital Dawar and took stock of its functioning. He inspected various wards, units and interacted with the doctors, patients and other staff posted there to get the feedback about the healthcare services being provided to the people. He took a detailed brief regarding the facilities being provided to the patients, flow of patients, rate of referral to tertiary care institutions, staff position and other related issues.

Dr Owais also interacted with people who apprised him about various issues faced by them especially during the winter when Gurez Valley remains cut off from the rest of the world. The Deputy Commissioner gave patient hearing to the people and passed on-spot directions for early redressal of several grievances and assured the people that he will personally look into all the issues flagged by the people.
