The lush valley of Kashmir, where civilization and culture are rooted for centuries, is today facing the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Amidst the increasing pressure of modernity and global influences, a young man is actively working to preserve his cultural identity. 19-year-old Obaid Abbas is at the forefront of the campaign to preserve Kashmiri heritage and connect the new generation with it.

He has founded a cultural platform called Fantafankar, which aims to promote Kashmiri art, literature and history. Through this unique effort, he is awakening the consciousness of connecting with their culture among the youth and giving them a message of pride in their identity.

Awareness of the importance of cultural heritage

The culture of Kashmir has a wonderful heritage, which includes unique aspects such as mystical traditions, ancient architecture, poetry, music and handicrafts. However, in the last few decades, modern trends, changing lifestyles, and the diminishing representation of local culture in the educational curriculum have distanced the younger generation from their cultural roots.

Ubaid Abbas launched Fantafankar to fill this gap. The main goal of this platform is to provide a place for Kashmiri artists to showcase their creations and introduce the younger generation to their cultural heritage.

Cultural Activities and Public Engagement

Fantafankar organizes various events and activities, with Heritage Walks in particular receiving public acclaim. During these tours, youth and ordinary citizens are taken to historical sites in the valley, where they are made aware of their historical and cultural background.

In addition, cultural talks, poetry readings, and music programs are also organized, where people associated with the fine arts showcase their talents. These activities are not only aimed at providing a platform to artists but also at highlighting the importance of Kashmiri culture.

Movement for the younger generation

In recognition of these efforts, Obaid Abbas has been awarded the title of ‘Gen Z Leader’, which is considered a symbol of positive change in this generation. However, the real success for him is not this but the moment when young Kashmiris start embracing their identity and heritage.

Ubaid believes that art is not just an aesthetic experience but also contains history, emotions and cultural continuity. His struggle is to establish a strong connection between Kashmiri artists and the people so that this heritage does not become a mere memory of the past but is passed down from generation to generation.

Need for cultural education

Ubaid Abbas emphasizes that if Kashmiri culture is to be preserved, it must be made an integral part of the education system. He is in favor of including Kashmiri history, literature and arts in the curriculum of schools and Universities so that the new generation can become aware of its roots.

They call on government institutions and cultural organizations to take concrete steps to promote Kashmiri heritage, sponsor local festivals, art exhibitions and cultural programs, and highlight these activities at the national and international levels.

The future of Kashmiri culture

The efforts of youth like Ubaid Abbas are proof that if worked with determination and love, cultural heritage can not only be preserved but also given a new life.

Fantafankar is not just an organization but a movement that ensures that Kashmiri culture, which has maintained its uniqueness for centuries, reaches the coming generations in its original form and stands before the world with its true identity.
