The weatherman Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued weather advisory for “major wet spell “ in the state.
As per the advisory, the weather system may lead to disruption of surface and air transportation like Srinagar-Jammu highway.
“A fresh Western Disturbance is most likely to affect the state of Jammu and Kashmir from the evening of January 1 to 2. Under the influence of this system, light rain/snow (plains) to moderate rain/snow (upper reaches) is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region,” reads the advisory.
Another Western Disturbance will most likely affect the state from the evening of 4 to 6 January.
Under the influence of this system, it says, moderate rain and snow are expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region with the possibility of heavy snowfall in isolated places with maximum intensity & spread on 4th and 5th January and gradual decrease thereafter.
“This will be the first ‘major wet spell’ in the starting of New year for J&K.”
The advisory says that under the influence of the weather system, higher reaches of Kashmir, Ladakh & Jammu would receive moderate snowfall during 4 and 5th January with the possibility of heavy snowfall in isolated places.
Besides affecting transportation, aerial and surface, the advisory says that there will be significant fall in day temperature and a slight rise in night temperatures. (GNS)
