Srinagar, Jul 16 According to local news agency (GNS): District Administration Baramulla on Friday asked Executive Engineer, Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric Power Project to furnish a show cause report over the ‘illegal fishing’ and causing ‘huge loss’ to the fish fauna by locals in the canal on July 7.

A notice in this regard, a copy of which lies with GNS, reads that “A large number of people of Boniyar area, taking undue advantage of shutdown of LJHP scheduled on 07-07-2020 have ventured inside the canal and caught the fish in illegal way and as such caused a huge loss to the fish fauna.

The concerned department, as per the notice, has ventilated serious concern over the loss and have complained that LJHP authorities have not informed them about the scheduled shutdown as per the past practice.

In this connection, you (Executive Engineer LJHP Gantmulla) are directed to furnish a factual report in the matter explaining therein why the concerned quarters have not been intimated well in advance as per the past practice besides how a large number of people were allowed to venture inside the canal (in violation to this office order No: DMB/PS/2961-67 dated 03-07 2 20), the notice reads further.

Pertinent to mention here that a purported video-clip has been doing rounds on social media for over a week now, wherein a large number of people can be seen catching the fish inside the Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric power Project (LJHP) canal in the district.
