(Baramulla),27 September 2020. The Army has been at the forefront in its efforts to promote peace and normalcy in the Valley. With an aim to rejuvenate and boost the sports culture of Kashmir, ‘Wular Sports Festival’ was organised by Paribal Tekri Rashtriya Rifles Battalion of Watlab Sector on 27 September 2020.

The festival amongst other events comprised of Wular Run in four different categories i.e. for children (Girls & Boys), teenagers (Girls) and teenagers(Boys). The event commenced with the Wular Run which was flagged off by Deputy Commander Watlab
Sector from Sangri Village, Baramulla. Total of 227 youths from 27 villages of Bandipora and Baramulla districts participated in the event. Mr Asif Ahmed Khan of Watlab Ghat, stood first in the closely competed run in the boys category, Miss Mehvish Majid also of Watlab Ghat stood first in Girls’ category. The run comprised of running over undulating road surface and grounds of Watlab Sports Stadium. The other events included a medical camp conducted on the sidelines of the sporting events witnessed a healthy participation of elders, children and teenagers.

The participants who achieved 1st, 2nd & 3rd position in different events were given cash prizes and balance all the participants were given consolation prizes. Upon distribution of prizes, Deputy Commander Watlab Sector addressed and congratulated all the prize winners and the spectators for their sportsmanship and the talent exhibited during the event. Mr Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, Sarpanch, Ashtiung on behalf of local populace,
whole heartedly applauded this joint effort and expressed gratitude towards Army for
organising such an event with due adherence to social distancing norms and COVID-19
guidelines.
