8th November – World Radiology Day
“My Take”

World Radiology Day, celebrated on 8th November each year, is a moment to recognize the vital role of
radiology in modern healthcare. This day unites doctors, radiographers, and engineers, all working
towards a common mission: to diagnose and treat patients effectively. It brings together specialists from
diverse fields like Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology etc, alongside
radiographers and engineers specializing in biomedical, electrical, electronics, mechanical, software, fluid
mechanics, and artificial intelligence. Together, they form the backbone of radiology, ensuring the design,
operation, and maintenance of essential radiological equipment.
We owe this progress to the pioneering discovery of X-rays by SIR Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, the German
physicist who transformed medicine and created countless careers across radiology and other medical
and technical fields. Without X-rays, the very concepts of “diagnosis” and “treatment” as we know them
today might never have existed.
On this day, let us remember that our healthcare system needs not only dedicated radiation workers—
doctors, radiographers, and engineers—but also healthy ones. We encourage all radiation workers to
wear TLD (Thermo luminescent Dosimeter) badges to monitor exposure in radiation zones. When we
safeguard the health of our workers and maintain our equipment, we strengthen our collective ability to
achieve the ultimate goal: to diagnose and treat every patient with precision and care.
