Baramulla 22 March: The bodies of two individuals, a young boy and a girl who tragically drowned in the Jhelum River from the Uri tehsil of Baramulla district, have been recovered from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The victims have been identified as Syed Yasir Shah from Dulanja and Asiya Bano from Pasgran village in Uri tehsil. According to initial reports, the duo had gone missing a few days ago, and investigations revealed that they had jumped into the river due to domestic disputes.

The body of Asiya Bano was recovered from the Thori area of Muzaffarabad three days ago, while Syed Yasir Shah’s body was found at Chinari. Both bodies were identified and confirmed by local authorities and the families.

Efforts between the two sides have led to arrangements for their repatriation. The bodies will be handed over to Indian authorities by the Pakistan Army at the Chakothi-Uri Command Bridge on March 22, 2025.

Local administration, along with security forces, is ensuring a smooth process for the return of the bodies so that they can be laid to rest in their native villages.

The district administration expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased during this difficult time.
