Srinagar, Mar 11:Enforcement team of Srinagar Municipal Committee Corporation (SMC) was allegedly pelted with stones during a demolition drive at Ahmad Nagar, 90 ft. area of Soura in the outskirts of Srinagar city on Thursday afternoon.
Reports reaching news agency GNS that a team of Enforcement wing had this afternoon initiated a demolition drive near Al-Khuddam in 90 ft. area of Soura.
Soon after getting a whiff, several people, which only swelled in proportion with time, started to hinder the drive and later on pelted stones on the team. During the pelting, glass panes of several vehicles got damaged, with the officials however barely managing to escape unhurt.
When contacted Ghulam Rasool Dar, Chief Enforcement Officer SMC confirming the incident, told GNS that glasses of several vehicles including that of a JCB and his own vehicle were damaged during heavy pelting by the people present there.
“We were there for a demolition despite an official holiday”, he said adding that “However we couldn’t do much with forceful restrain shown by the public there.”
There was no reported injury to any official or employee in the incident, as per the official.
The official in the meantime said that they have sealed a huge illegal structure at Bota Kadal at Moulvi Stop in Lal-Bazar during the ongoing drive.
According to the official, it has been getting a bit tough for them ‘to manage the things without any support from police’. “We had forty police personnel at our help during such drives, however they were withdrawn by the department concerned for their own pre-occupations for two years now”, he said adding that “We have as such made a fresh request to Commissioner concerned to allocate us at least ten police personnel for smooth conduct of such drives.”
