Baramulla, Aug 14 : Security has been beefed up in Srinagar and the major towns including Baramulla district ahead of Independence Day celebration on August 15. Security forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident to disrupt the celebrations. However, it is pertinent to mention that, militants fired indiscriminately on the Jammu and Kashmir Police party in Nowgam area of Srinagar and killed two policemen while another one was injured.

In another incident on August 12, militants have also fired on the joint Naka party of CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police at Haigam in which the security forces retaliated. However, the militants managed to escape while injuring a security personnel.

Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Abdul Qayoom said that “the situation is under control in the district and we are working in association with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Army to keep a tab on the situation”.

He further added that, “we are monitoring the situation using drones in Baramulla and are ready to tackle the situation”. ( KASHMIR CROWN)
