Srinagar, Dec 18:Police on Friday claimed to have solved an ATM theft case reported from J&K Bank branch Khumaini Chowk last month.
According to a police statement issued to GNS, “On 27-11-2020, Bank Manager J&K Khumaini Chowk Bemina Srinagar reported that a cash amount of Rs 9,06,400 (Rupees Nine Lakh Six Thousand and Four Hundred only) is missing from ATM Machine in the locality.” On receipt of a written complaint of the Manager a Case FIR No. 258/2020 U/S 380 IPC was registered in Parimpora police station and investigation taken up.”
During the course of investigation, the scene of crime was minutely examined and it was found that ATM Machine was locked as usual without any mark of damage/violence to it, the statement said, adding that during preliminary investigation, it surfaced that the cash of the ATM Machine had been stolen by using the code of the machine, which raised suspicion that the theft has been carried out by the person having knowledge of the affairs of the bank code and other procedure related to opening and closing of ATM.
“All the persons having acquaintance were put to sustained questioning and finally one person working as security guard in the said bank namely Javaid Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Hassan Malla residence Khumaini Chowk Bemina Srinagar was zeroed down and put to sustained questioning,” police said. “During questioning, he confessed to the crime and on his disclosure a cash of Rs 8,90,600 (Eight Lakh Ninety Thousand and Six Hundred Only) has been recovered from the attic of the bank building and the accused was arrested in the instant case.”
The case, as per the statement, has been worked out by Srinagar Police under the supervision of SP West Shahzad Salaria even as the team of West Zone Police comprising of ESU West, SDPO West, Muzaffer Jan, SHO police station Parimpora Inspector Zaffer Iqbal and DO Bemina SI Sheikh Aadil played a vital role during investigations into the case.
