Two arrested, huge quantity of contraband substance seized
Kathua, Nov 05: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have foiled major narcotic smuggling bid at Lakhanpur by arresting two persons along with a huge quantity of contraband substance.
Police in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that Police Station Lakhanpur during a naka checking stopped a vehicle bearing registration number PB05Y-5243 for checking.
“During checking, it was found that the vehicle was laden with huge consignment of contraband like substance, which was being transported from Punjab towards Jammu via Lakhanpur,” police spokesman said.
During checking, police said that 4860 bottles of “WINCIREX” cough syrup of 10080 number Intoxicating capsules stealthily hidden under the sacks of oranges were found laden in the said vehicle.
“The said vehicle was driven by Angrez Singh, son of Balbinder Singh of Guru Harsahi Tehsil Jalalabad District Ferozpur Punjab and his associate namely Raj Kumar, son of Chandu Ram of Guru Harsahi Tehsil Jalalabad District Ferozpur Punjab. Both the accused persons were arrested and the vehicle was also seized by the police,” the statement said.
On this, police said that a case under FIR number 100/2020 under section 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Lakhanpur against the arrested persons and the investigation is under process.
“Kathua Police is striving hard and taking every possible step to make people especially youth aware to eradicate drug menace. We request people of the area to come forward and share information about drug peddling or consumption on 100 with Police for the cause. Your identity will be kept confidential,” police said—(KNO)
