Baramulla, September 10: Jammu and Kashmir government decides extending High speed internet ban in all district of the Union Territory except to continue high speed internet services in Udhampur and Ganderbal district till September 30.
High Speed Internet Ban in Jammu and Kashmir since 5 august 2019 while Government of India Abrogated Article 370 and Bifurcated into Two Union Territories, one is Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and another is Union territory of Ladakh.
Suspending internet Services in Jammu and Kashmir is common. After every gunfight between militants and security forces, the government blocks the internet as a precautionary measure, said officials.
While talking to Kashmir Crown one of the student said, “Ban on high speed internet has prevented schools and colleges to offer online classes through applications like google classroom and zoom. The ongoing crises thus can have paramount impact on the mental health of the students in Kashmir.”
“The government should take necessary steps in restoring the 4G network in all districts, so that the youth of Kashmir don’t face any problems in pursuing their education in this pandemic. They should keep all political reasons aside”, he added.
Officials from Tourism sector said,Tourism is the backbone of the Kashmiri economy and we need the high speed internet so the industry can function.The 2G connection is so poor, people here are still unable to even send an email. If the Indian government wants to ensure development here then they have to allow fully fledge, high speed internet to return.
“The lack of high speed internet creates many hurdles for us.We fail to make e-transactions and face difficulties in filing Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns, it chokes our business”, an entrepreneur from Srinagar said.
