KUPWARA, MARCH 6:The Department of Handloom, today organized a day long awareness cum registration camp for handloom weavers and artisans of Kupwara district at Town Hall, Kupwara.
The Assistant Director ,Handloom Muzamil Hassan presided over the camp.
The camp was aimed at to provide general awareness to Artisans and Handloom Weavers with regard to employment opportunities in different activities of Handloom sector.
The A D Handloom said that Government is putting all out efforts to revive the prestine glory of Handloom sector in Kupwara district, adding that various innovative programmes are being implemented in the district to get the best results at grossroot level. He said as many as 3317 weavers have been registered with the department so for. 400 different units have been established , for which the department provided a subsidy of Rs 60 lakh. He said by now 11 Handloom centres are running in different areas of the district where 141 trainees are being imparted training in Cutting Tailoring, weaving and kani Shawl. A stipend of Rs 1000 and Rs 1500 are being provided to the trainees of Elementary and Advanced Courses respectively.
The experts of Handloom and Handicraft Departments, besides, MD Skill Development (NGO) gave a detailed Information about various schemes and programmes that are directly connected with employment generation.
Various trainees also spoke on the occasion and shared their experience. They expressed their gratitude for the department and demanded that time period of training sessions need to be extended so that better results could be yielded at ground level.
