Kupwara, Mar 16:Students of twin colleges – Government Degree College Kupwara and Sogam – on Tuesday protested against Wasim Rizvi, the infamous petitioner, seeking to read down certain verses from Holy Quran from Supreme Court of India.
Reports reaching news agency GNS that scores of students raised slogans against the petitioner, for what they called an ‘anti-Muslim and anti-Quranic act.’
A group of students at Government Degree College Kupwara told GNS that they want the Supreme Court to trash the plea sooner than later.
“The plea filed by Wasim Rizvi is totally against the basic tenets of Islam and Muslims which has the potency to create disharmony on a larger scale”, they said adding that “We appeal the Apex Court not to entertain the plea and instead take a stringent action against the infamous petitioner for the malacious act.”
Meanwhile a student at Government Degree College, Sogam said that the plea moved by Wasim Rizvi is a direct assault on basic ethos and fundamental teachings of Islam.
“We ask the authorities concerned to see as to why and with whose support has the person got this much courage to create a divide among the largest minority community in the country”, he said.
“We also humbly appeal Supreme Court as being the highest court of law not to accept the plea for the larger benefit of the country”, he added.
Meanwhile, the protests have dispersed peacefully at GDC Sogam, when this reported is being filed.
