‘Those in drug trade will face the heat of law’
Sopore, Aug 09: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Iftkhar Talib, on Saturday said that the multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations in the town, with police, CRPF and other security agencies maintaining heightened vigil across the sub-division.
Speaking on the sidelines of a bike rally organised as part of the pre-Independence Day build-up, SSP Talib, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the security surveillance measures have been enhanced to pre-empt any untoward incident.
He credited the people of Sopore and civil society for their cooperation in maintaining peace and enabling such public events to take place smoothly. “The events happening are because of the people’s participation and their trust,” he said, adding that the build-up programmes will continue till August 15.
On the issue of drug menace, SSP Talib said the police are committed to cracking down on the trade, but public support remains crucial. “Those involved will face the heat of law, but community involvement is necessary to eradicate this menace,” he said.
