BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 28: District Election Officer Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo today chaired a meeting of concerned officers to discuss various measures regarding the smooth conduct of upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) bye-elections in the district.

On the occasion, a threadbare discussion on the subject was held during which it was informed that 149 sarpanch seats and 2165 panch seats are lying vacant in the district besides, 28 seats of councilors in various MCs are also lying vacant. However, all the positions of BDC chairpersons have been filled in the previous BDC elections.

Speaking on the occasion, DEO stressed for working in coordination and synergy besides directed for making all the requisite arrangements well in advance.

He also exhorted to ensure that all basic facilities at each designated polling station and emphasized to sort-out all bottlenecks, if any so that the process is conducted smoothly.

Moreover, the meeting also discussed details of polling stations, locations with regard to accessibility, telecom connectivity, infrastructure, vulnerability and other related issues during which the DEO was briefed about details of the same by the concerned quarters.

Later, the DEO in presence of various officers inaugurated EVM Warehouse that has been constructed inside the DC office complex.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Deputy DEO Sameer Jan, ACD, Executive Officers, BDOs, besides various other concerned functionaries.
