My Take On Elections
Shahid Imran:
Decades have passed, yet Kashmir remains stagnant. Have politicians mastered the art of deception, or are the people simply forgetful, enabling repeated broken promises? Or perhaps, as analysts suggest, the current electoral landscape has created a scenario where unachievable promises are being made, trapping the people in a cycle of disappointment.
As a journalist, I question whether we are a society with high intellectual standards or merely a directionless crowd that fails to hold our leaders and politicians accountable for their campaign promises and manifestos. Doesn’t the truth ultimately prevail, making it wiser to lead with honesty rather than deceitful tactics for temporary power gains? Unfortunately, Kashmir’s history is marred by one party outdoing another in lies, deception, and cheating, leaving the people repeatedly betrayed and deceived.
The recent elections in J&K were fought on promises of dignity and respect, but it’s crucial that we now set realistic expectations for our people regarding what can be achieved. Rather than keeping them in the dark, we must be transparent and honest about our goals, establishing a narrative standard for future generations to uphold.
